Kurdish Political Prisoner Alireza Rasoli on Hunger Strike

For the past 21 days Kurdish political prisoner Alireza Rasoli has been on hunger strike in the central prison of Mahabad. Rasoli is ill and has demanded health care. The prison authorities not only denied Rasoli health care, but have also placed him in solitary confinement.

The prison authorities asked Rasoli to end the hunger strike. He has refused. In response, Rasoli was placed in solitary confinement on June 9.

Alireza Rasoli was arrested in on February 21, 2013, for having distributed leaflets on International Mother Language Day.

The Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad sentenced Rasoli to three and a half years in prison for alleged “conspiracy against national security” of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
