In a statement, PDKI condemns Turkey\u2019s attack on the Kurdish city of Afrin in western (Syrian) Kurdistan. PDKI calls on the international community\u00a0not to remain silent and\u00a0to take action\u00a0in order to prevent a humanitarian\u00a0crisis in Syrian Kurdistan.<\/p>\n
Turkey has for some time threatened to attack Syrian Kurdistan. It began with the attack on Afrin. In addition to\u00a0the\u00a0shelling and airstrikes\u00a0against Afrin, Turkey has threatened to undertake a ground invasion. PDKI warns of an impending\u00a0humanitarian\u00a0crisis\u00a0if Turkey\u2019s military aggression continues.<\/p>\n
PDKI also reminds\u00a0the international community\u00a0of the pivotal role the Kurdish people plays in\u00a0fighting terrorism in\u00a0the\u00a0Middle East.<\/p>\n
However, now that the war against\u00a0the Islamic state, or IS,\u00a0is winding down, the states occupying Kurdistan collaborate to attack the Kurdish people in the different parts of Kurdistan. It began with the attack against Kirkuk by Iraqi\u00a0militias\u00a0and Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guards. Now, with the attack on Afrin, Turkey has demonstrated that it cannot even tolerate Kurdish self-rule within the boundaries of another country.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the international community has remained silent in the face of these attacks against the Kurdish people.<\/p>\n
PDKI calls on the international community not to remain silent in the face of\u00a0repeated acts of military\u00a0aggression against the Kurdish people by the states occupying different parts of Kurdistan.<\/p>\n
Even if democracy and human rights no longer concern the international community, the\u00a0Western powers should\u00a0at least consider the fact that the Kurds have been their\u00a0most important allies in the struggle against terrorism in the Middle East.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
