In a recent article, PDKI leader Mustafa Hijri writes that the Iran nuclear deal is in a\u00a0state of coma, and may cease to exist.\u00a0He hints\u00a0that\u00a0it\u00a0is an open question whether\u00a0foreign companies, especially European companies,\u00a0will\u00a0manage to shield the Iranian regime from\u00a0the impact of ensuing American sanctions or whether they will join the United States in\u00a0containing the Islamist regime in Iran. Mr. Hijri also predicts that if the sanctions endanger the survival of the Islamist regime, its past actions indicate that the regime will be willing to compromise to ensure its own survival.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In his article, Mr. Hijri reminds that\u00a0the Western powers and a large segment of the Iranian population believed that the lifting of sanctions on the Islamic Republic would have two important consequences. First, Iran\u2019s reintegration into the global economy would improve the economic situation of ordinary Iranians and,\u00a0furthermore,\u00a0make the Islamist regime less oppressive in the process. Second, that engaging the Iranian regime and the lifting of sanctions would\u00a0change\u00a0the Islamic Republic\u00a0from\u00a0a regime that\u00a0supports\u00a0terrorism,\u00a0interferes\u00a0in the domestic affairs of other countries\u00a0and\u00a0one that instigates\u00a0sectarian violence and instability in the Middle East to\u00a0a\u00a0country that could contribute to stability in the region \u2013 or,\u00a0at the very least,\u00a0that the Islamic Republic would\u00a0moderate its destructive foreign policy behavior.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The PDKI leader also reminds that\u00a0in interviews, speeches and statements, PDKI officials predicted the opposite; that is, that the Islamist regime will continue to oppress the Iranian population, that the lifting of sanctions would provide the regime with increased resources in pursuit of its expansionist, Islamist-sectarian and war instigating foreign policy in the Middle East.\u00a0For this reason, he emphasizes, sanctions against Iran are sanctions on the Islamist regime.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, PDKI views the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal as\u00a0a measure toward the containment of Iran\u2019s behavior with respect to support for terrorism, as well as instigation of sectarian violence and war in the Middle East. PDKI is therefore hoping that Europe and the rest of the world will eventually join the United States in containing Iran\u2019s destructive and destabilizing behavior in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
