The Central Command of Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Forces released a statement earlier today regarding a clash between the Peshmerga Forces and Iran\u2019s terrorist Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that took place on the evening of June 23.<\/p>\n
A number of IRGC soldiers were killed and wounded in the clash. Unfortunately, a brave Peshmerga platoon commander, Saman Hassanpour, was martyred in the clash.<\/p>\n
In the evening of June 23, 2018, a Peshmerga platoon under the command of Saman Hassanpour, alias Saman Shiwasali, came under heavy fire in the proximity of the Kurdish city of Piranshar. The Iranian forces shelled the Peshmerga Forces’ positions in the mountains of Ziwa and Kona Lajan in Piranshar.<\/p>\n
In the ensuing battle, the Iranian forces, who suffered a number of casualties, were defeated. The Iranian regime has only confirmed that one of their commanders by the name of Mohammed Hashmi, second lieutenant in the IRGC, was killed in the battle, and that a soldier by the name of Kasri Abdolalizadeh was severely injured in the clash.<\/p>\n
Saman Hassanpour, a college graduate, was born in 1989 in the Kurdish city of Sardasht. In 2006, he was arrested by Iran\u2019s intelligence agency for having raised the Kurdish flag and was imprisoned for seven months. In 2016, Saman Hassanpour joined PDKI\u2019s Peshmerga Forces. As a devoted and loyal Peshmerga, he rose within the ranks of the Peshmerga Forces and was one of the youngest and most promising platoon commanders.<\/p>\n
