To mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Kurdistan, the PDKI’s foreign office in Switzerland organised a commemorative event. Several Swiss political figures attended the ceremony, including Carlo Sommaruga and Fabian Molina, who sit on the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy. Also in attendance were Professor Thomas G\u00fcnther, a university lecturer, and Professor Elie Bicher, a lawyer and historian.<\/p>\n
The programme began with the playing of the Kurdish national anthem, followed by a moment of silence in honour of the fallen peshmergas of Kurdistan. Midia Piroti, the PDK representative to Switzerland and host of the ceremony, welcomed the guests and gave a speech about the history and significance of the Republic of Kurdistan.<\/p>\n
During the event, Senator Sommaruga emphasised the historical importance of the anniversary in his address to the audience. Having reviewed the current situation of the Kurdish people, he reaffirmed his support for their cause. Similarly, Mr Molina, a long-standing supporter of the Kurdish movement, expressed his readiness to provide political support for the Kurdish cause in any way he could.<\/p>\n
A key highlight of the event was the screening of a short documentary on the history of the Republic of Kurdistan and the PDKI’s eighty-year struggle. The film made a strong impression on those in attendance by offering extensive insight in a short amount of time.<\/p>\n
The ceremony concluded with plaques of appreciation being presented to two Peshmerga veterans, Kajal Haji Abbasi and Ahmad Sherbagi, in recognition of their sacrifices and contributions to the Kurdish cause during challenging periods.<\/p>\n
