A PDKI Delegation Attended the XXV Session of the UNPO Presidency

A PDKI delegation consisting of Dr. Ali Abdelzadeh, Iranian Kurdistan’s representative to the UNPO, and Kawa Ahangari, PDKI’s representative in Belgium, attended the XXV Session of the UNPO Presidency, which took place on 14-15 October in Brussels.
After the adoption of the agenda of the Presidency meeting and opening remarks by the president of UNPO, the UNPO General Secretary Marino Busdachin presented a report. The report focused, among other things, on the latest global and regional political trends and developments affecting the situation of UNPO members round the world.
The General Secretary’s report also highlighted the significant role and contribution of UNPO in the shaping of the minority rights landscape by actively creating spaces and opportunities for its members to engage in collective advocacy on human rights issues.
The meeting also addressed previous and future activities of the UNPO. The UNPO Presidency endorsed a plan for future activities.
In another part of the meeting, new membership applications along with a number of suggestions and other important issues were discussed and endorsed by the members of the UNPO Presidency.
The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization is an international, nonviolent, and democratic organization which represents over forty different nations and indigenous peoples worldwide. The organization was established in 1991 with the aim to protect and promote the human and cultural rights of its members, to help preserve their environments, and to find nonviolent solutions to conflicts which affect them. Dalai Lama played an important role in the establishment of UNPO.
Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) is representing Iranian Kurdistan in the UNPO since 2007. Iranian Kurdistan is one out of ten members of the UNPO presidency.
