Meeting of PDKI Representative with the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Canada
On Monday, January 18, 2026, Esmail Ebrahimi, the representative of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan in Canada, together with Ms. Beyan Kurd Farshi, a member of the party’s relations committee, met with the Mr Tom Kmiec, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Canada.
During the meeting, the latest political and security developments in Kurdistan and Iran were discussed, with particular focus on the deteriorating human rights situation in Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhalat). The systematic repression of the Kurdish people, including arbitrary arrests, executions, and the suppression of political and civil freedoms by the Islamic Republic of Iran, was highlighted. The representatives stressed the urgent need to strengthen the Kurdish voice within Canadian political institutions and international forums.
The party representatives expressed their appreciation to Mr. Tom Kmiec and the Conservative Party of Canada for their consistent support of the Kurdish cause and for their principled stance in defense of human rights and democratic values. They emphasized that, in this critical period, the Kurdish people in Rojhalat are in urgent need of sustained international attention, political pressure, and concrete support from democratic governments. Canada’s commitment to human rights, along with its multicultural and federal governance model, was underlined as a meaningful and practical framework for addressing the challenges faced by ethnically and culturally diverse states such as Iran.
Mr. Tom Kmiec, one of the founding members of the Parliamentary Friends of the Kurds Group, reaffirmed his long-standing support for the Kurdish people. He reiterated his commitment to advancing Kurdish issues within the Canadian Parliament and to holding the Islamic Republic of Iran accountable for its ongoing violations of human rights.
