PDKI Organized a Rally in Support of Southern Kurdistan’s Independence Referendum

Today, September 15, PDKI organized a rally in support of Southern Kurdistan’s independence referendum in one of its bases outside of Hawler (Erbil), the capital of southern (Iraqi) Kurdistan.
PDKI’s leadership, Peshmerga, cadre and members took part in the rally and expressed their support for southern Kurdistan’s independence. A number of Kurdish dignitaries and friends of PDKI from other parts of Kurdistan were also present.
PDKI’s leadership decided in its August leadership meeting to support the independence referendum. Since then, PDKI has issued statements in support of the referendum. PDKI also launched a campaign to that end and has called on the people of eastern (Iranian) Kurdistan and Kurds in the diaspora to support the referendum.
The Kurdish people in eastern Kurdistan and Kurds in the diaspora have in various ways expressed their support for the planned independence referendum in southern Kurdistan. Although the Iranian regime is the most vocal opponent of southern Kurdistan’s independence referendum, the people of eastern Kurdistan have defied the Iranian regime and expressed their public support for the referendum in a number of cities.
Mustafa Hijri, the leader of PDKI, delivered a speech at the rally in which he reiterated PDKI’s support for southern Kurdistan’s right to hold a referendum.
A number of Kurdish artists and poets attended the rally. Shivan Parvar, the prominent Kurdish artist from northern (Turkish) Kurdistan, delivered a passionate speech in support of Kurdistan’s independence.
