PDKI Representative Meets with Chief of Staff to the President of the Belgian Federal Parliament
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Hisam Dastpish, the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran to the European Union, met with Mr Aaron Verbrugghe, chief of staff to the president of the Belgian Federal Parliament.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current situation in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan. At the beginning of the meeting, the PDKI representative presented a brief overview of the current situation in Eastern Kurdistan, followed by a discussion of the role and responsibilities of the Belgian Parliament in this regard.
The Chief of Staff to the President of the Belgian Parliament emphasized the future of Iran, and the PDKI representative outlined the Kurdish perspective on the matter. Practical issues were also discussed during the meeting, particularly how the Belgian Parliament could play a supportive role, given that Belgium is a federal country with three officially recognized languages and distinct regions.
Toward the end of the meeting, Mr. Fiebrooge asked several questions about the current situation in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran. The party representative answered them in detail. This was done so that the information could be conveyed to the president of the parliament and ensure he is fully informed about the situation.
Notably, the current president of the Belgian Federal Parliament belongs to the N-VA party, which places significant importance on identity and self-determination.
