PDKI Supports Demonstrators in Iran

In a statement, PDKI’s Policy-Making Center expresses its support for the recent demonstrations in Iran. PDKI also stresses that coordinated and country-wide demonstrations are required to replace the Islamist dictatorship with a democratic government that respects the rights of the nations in Iran and is at peace with the outside world.
PDKI attributes the continued outburst of protests in Iran to the Islamist regime’s policies of systematic oppression of the population in Iran, as well the plundering of the country’s resources by a corrupt religious-military elite that pursues an adventurist foreign policy and funds terrorist regimes and groups in the Middle East.
This reality is manifested in the demonstrators’ grievances. For example, demonstrators in a dozen Iranian cities have during the past days chanted such slogans as “Death to the Dictator!” in a reference Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamist regime. They also chanted “Leave Syria alone, think of us” in response to the regime’s destructive and costly foreign policy in the Middle East. The demonstrators also rebuked the Islamist regime’s decades-old propaganda – which blames Iran’s problems on the United States – by stressing that the Islamist regime is the cause of Iran’s hardships, not outside powers.
PDKI expresses its moral and political support for the demonstrators and calls on the Kurdish nation, which is living under double oppression, to express solidarity with the demonstrators in the central parts of Iran.
PDKI also reiterates that only a long-term commitment to liberty, democracy and respect for diversity can free Iran from dictatorship. PDKI therefore stresses the need for coordinated and country-wide demonstrations to bring about a democratic government in Iran.
